2377 Portable Appliance Testing
The Certificate Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment is a qualification based on the IET’s Code of Practice for in-service inspection and testing electrical equipment.
Note: This qualification should not be confused with the Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.
This is aimed at installations of entire buildings rather than portable appliances.
Who is it aimed at?
This qualification is aimed at practising electricians involved in the inspection and testing of electrical equipment (e.g. portable appliances) and/or those involved in managing the process of it.
There are two routes available within this qualification:
- Level 3 Award in the Management Requirements for the Maintenance of Electrical Equipment (2377-32).
One mandatory unit –
- 2377-201 multiple choice
- Level 3 Award for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
Two mandatory units –
- 2377-101 multiple choice.
- 2377-102 practical
Thompson Training currently only offers the second route.
How is the qualification taught and delivered?
You will be taught within a classroom environment. You should already be a practising electrician.
For each certificate you will be assessed via one online test. There is also a practical test so that your ability to test safely and competently is tested.
The practical assessment will take place with either your own PAT Tester or one that Thompson Training will provide.
On completion of this qualification, you will be able to progress on to any of the following related qualifications:
Progression to Level 4 qualifications would be for management and engineering roles.
